Following a request from professors and parents just after the food emergency aid project for 136 children of Lemongo school in 2011, GHA decided to set up a project of a drinking water conveyance in the schoolyard.
During a ground visit in November 1991, the projects’ responsible of the noticed the state of a neighbouring spring trashed by elephants’ nocturnal visits coming from Amboseli park as well as the incoming water collected in a pond at one kilometer below the school. The water flow and pressure were sufficient to envisage a diversion to supply a water tank.
A feasibility study has been done at the beginning of year 2012 by our MHA local’s responsibles and a quotation has been transmitted to us. A pipeline (equiped with a valve) has been undergrounded and et go through a wall of stones closed to the main track and cross it under a tarmacked existing supply pipe, to finally arrive at destination and be connected to the water tank set up high in the schoolyard. The water collected has been analyzed by the service of the Loitokitok ‘s hospital, this water is drinkable for the consumption of the population. In collaboration with the teachers, basic hygienics workshops will be set up. The tank will be at children ‘s disposal but also to the around communities. When the level of water will be too low in the basin a petrol pump will be activated to insure pressure up to the tank. The expenses will be supported by Lemongo community.
